SundayÂ
I’m determined to get off this plateau, because it’s not a plateau so much as it’s a crevasse, a fissure in what was supposed to be a long straight highway from where I was (220, down from 227 five years ago) to where I want to be (135 on my birthday next year). I told the weigh-in woman I didn’t want the plateau leaflet because I had no intention of changing anything. But I did stay for Sandra’s orientation lecture last week after the meeting, and I printed out “15 Tips for Breaking Through a Plateau,” found on Health Discovery: A Weight Watchers Support Network. (This is an extensive site complete with message boards that appears to have been started by some women who had become fed up with the snarky and unpleasant tone of most of the official Weight Watchers site’s message boards. I’ve been to the official ones. I’m not surprised.)
The first tip in the article is “Journal, Journal, Journal.” I make my own journal pages, a two-week spread on letter-size paper, Sunday through Wednesday on the left and Thursday through a block for “Et cetera” on the right. It’s been a long time since I liked any of the journals or trackers that WW provides. And I do use it. But maybe not as diligently and absolutely honestly as I might.
I am completely “on program” today. Before church I made a “Maggy McMuffin,” a poached egg, a slice of cheese, and three thin slivers of Canadian bacon on a toasted English muffin. It’s exactly the same number of points as an Egg McMuffin (7), and you have to eat it with a knife and fork because it’s kind of lopsided and I don’t cook the egg as hard.
But I don’t have to go to McDonald’s for it. That’s something.
