I’ve Kept a Diary Like This

Mark Spragg’s novel An Unfinished Life tells the story of Jean Gilkyson and her nine-year-old daughter Griff who flee an abusive relationship to the only place Jean can think of, the remote Wyoming ranch of her former father-in-law. In the process, Griff loses some of her treasured possessions.

If she had it [her diary] now she’d write that she hates her mother. That’s all she’d write. She wouldn’t say what she hated her for. She’d need a bigger diary for that.
