Above is a pretty good representation of what my June was like. The picture is of a vista at Remount Ranch in Buford, Wyoming, once the home of Mary O’Hara, author of My Friend Flicka and its sequels. From 1922 until 1946 she lived here with her husband, Helge Sture-Vasa, who raised horses (remounts) for the Cavalry Division of Fort Francis E. Warren in Cheyenne. It was here that she wrote the Flicka trilogy. Some scenes from the 1943 movie version starring Roddy McDowell were filmed here. It is the place and the story and the atmosphere (as portrayed in the 1956 television series) that drew me to Wyoming.
I started this blog, subtitled “Notes from the Road,” primarily to post notes from that road — the road from Denver to Cheyenne and then west to the Wind River Range. I posted from June 14 through June 26, and still have plans to add June 27, 28, and 29. You can read about my adventure as it unfolded by going into the archives here for June.
My trip to Wyoming was everything I wanted it to be. You can’t say that about many experiences in this life!
